“Doors are like book covers that need to be opened, for they hold the biggest lessons for the future.”
This is the message that Marjan Samie wants to convey through her photo collection “Doors”, which was taken between 2014-2016 in Rasht, her hometown. She traveled there to revisit the old alleys and doors she had memories of from her childhood. She started to collect street photos as a diary in a hard disk, without any specific intention. Years later, after returning home, she looked at those photos again and realized they were like grayscale book covers, each hiding a tale behind them. She remembered the folklore stories of Gilan, the heroes, and Great Persia poets, that she had heard from the elders.

Very interesting work. All your doors evoque a story and another time already past. It is like looking to old photos of our past.
Not only are doors the bridge to our past, present and future, they are also the keepers of our destiny. Within each door, we learn who we are. We discover the deepest parts of our soul – what motivates and defines us, what breaks our hearts into thousands of little pieces. Doors may be opened and doors may be closed, but every person must turn that handle to find out. They must pass through in order to know what waits on the other side.
